Approximately 1 in 150 adults across the globe live with bipolar, according to the World Health Organization. This represents around 40 million people. Bipolar, and the stigmas that exist around it and other mental health disorders, can severely impact your quality of life. Lincoln Prairie’s mental health programs are designed to help you manage your Bipolar, and empower you to make lasting, positive change in your mental health.
Bipolar is a mood regulation disorder. Someone with bipolar disorder will experience frequent and intense mood swings that they cannot regulate on their own. Bipolar has been found to have a significant genetic component, but it can also be developed in other ways. Teens with bipolar disorder may be overlooked due to the tumultuous nature of adolescents. However, our dedicated staff at Lincoln Prairie is dedicated to listening to your teen, and helping them manage their emotions and experience with bipolar disorder.
There are two types of bipolar disorder – bipolar I and II. Both types of bipolar have similar symptoms and presentations, but will vary in their severity. Bipolar I tends to be more severe, with more frequent and intense manic and depressive episodes. Bipolar II is less intense, but still characterized by frequent mood swings. Bipolar II is more likely to inspire depressive episodes than manic episodes.
Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center offers inpatient and outpatient services for teens suffering from bipolar disorder in Illinois. Our programs focus on patient & family centered treatment plans, trauma-informed care and accessibility for patients and their families.
For adolescents who need a higher concentration of care, we offer inpatient treatment. Your teen will stay at our facility, overseen by our qualified staff. Our inpatient programming includes:
Our inpatient teenage psychiatric care takes into account who your teen is, their specific needs, your needs as a parent and more. Our main goal is to provide high quality adolescent inpatient treatment and to set your teen up for success during and after treatment.
Lincoln Prairie’s outpatient treatment is great for teens who don’t need around the clock supervision, but will still benefit from a structured program. During outpatient treatment, your child will attend several therapeutic groups across a handful of hours, returning home at the end of the session. Our outpatient programs include medication management, dialectical behavioral therapy and anger management groups.
Our LGBTQ+ inpatient program provides support groups for those who are LGBTQ+, psychiatrists who understand LGBTQ+ needs and a comfortable environment with an overall goal of stronger mental health in the long-term. We believe that it’s necessary to work within the unique context of being an LGBTQ+ youth in today’s society to accurately treat adolescents in the queer community struggling with their mental health.
