Children & Personality Disorders

Join us for a 90 minute training where participants will be able to define what personality disorders look like in children and adolescents. They will be able to review signs & symptoms as well as identify treatment options available. Finally, participants will be given coping strategies for caregivers.

Implicit Bias

Emily Lux, PhD, LSW is a licensed social worker in the Emergency Department at Carle Foundation Hospital at Urbana, IL. She received her PhD in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has previous practice experience providing clinical services to child welfare-involved youth in residential treatment and alternative education settings; therapeutic activity to the elderly; case management and direct support to developmentally delayed adults; and clinical therapy to individuals, couples, and families.

In this training participants will be able to:

  1. To understand all types of bias and prejudice in social work and health care settings
  2. To reflect on personal and professional biases that one may encounter in social work and health care
  3. To master bias as a general concept that interferes with equity and accessibility

Steven is the Quality Assurance Coordinator at Spero Family Services. Steven has more than 15 years of experience in residential treatment at Spero, with most of that in a supervisory role. For the past 3 years Steven has moved to the QA Coordinator position.

Participants will learn how to:

  1. Communicate an understanding of what contributes to challenging behaviors
  2. Present an explanation for what is happening when an individual is in crisis or exhibiting challenging behavior
  3. Provide options, tools, and processes for responding to challenging behavior
